Gemini App Now Supports Audio Files

Major Updates to Google’s Gemini-powered Products

Google, a leader in digital services and products, just announced three major updates to its Gemini-powered roster. These improvements manifest in the Gemini app’s ability to accept audio files; Search’s new capability to handle five additional languages; and NotebookLM’s novel blog posts, study guides, warnings and quizzes creation initiative.

Let’s delve deeper into these updates to appreciate how they would change the user experience.

Audio Files Compatibility with Gemini

According to Josh Woodward, the Vice President of Google Labs and Gemini, the number one request from users was to have the Gemini app accept audio files. This request being granted, free users of the Gemini app can now enjoy an audio limit of ten minutes. There is also a cap of five free prompts per day. Users with either AI Pro or AI Ultra can, however, upload audio files of up to three hours in duration. Apart from accommodating various file formats, each Gemini prompt can handle up to ten files, including those nestled within ZIP files.

Five New Languages for Google Search’s AI Mode

In the realm of Google Search’s AI Mode, five additional language options have been introduced, namely Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, and Brazilian Portuguese. This new development was made possible by the integration of Gemini 2.5 with the Search function. The goal is to empower more people to ask complex questions in their native language, while also exploring the web more deeply.

NotebookLM Software Update

NotebookLM, another member of the Gemini-powered family, is also receiving an update. This software is now offering new report styles in over 80 languages. This feature is based on a user’s uploaded documents, files, and other media. The standard report formats being rolled out include study guides, briefing documents, and blogs. The update also features flashcards and quizzes, thereby offering users a comprehensive tool kit for their digital tasks.

It’s worth noting that users can customize the structure, tone, and style of their reports. This software update should be fully available by the end of the week.

The past month has witnessed Google unleashing a deluge of AI-related features. Gemini, the AI-powered software, began automatically recalling user details and preferences from past conversations starting from August. Also in the same month, free users gained access to the Workspace’s video generation software, Vids. This was then followed by an upgrade to Photos, enabling the creation of silent 4-second long videos from users’ personal, still pictures.

This pivot towards AI-related updates testifies to Google’s commitment to accelerating the fusion of human intelligence with AI capabilities. Users should brace for more immersive and intuitive experiences as AI continues to augment and redefine our digital realities.
