OpenAI Enables Developers to Build Apps Within ChatGPT

OpenAI is undoubtedly changing the way we understand and interact with technology. The innovative company is taking transformative steps by introducing a new way to work with apps directly inside ChatGPT. It’s an intriguing concept where you can leverage the help of various apps to complete a task, all the while having the ChatGPT offer context and advice.

In what seemed like a glimpse of a more harmonious tech future, OpenAI demonstrated a few examples of this new implementation during a live demo. For instance, an OpenAI representative launched ChatGPT and requested Canva to design a poster for a fictitious dog-walking business. After a brief waiting period, Canva returned with a few poster samples. Going a step further, a pitch deck was then generated based on the created poster.

In another instance, the employee asked Zillow via ChatGPT to display houses for sale in Pittsburgh. The request yielded an interactive Zillow map, which was followed by a series of follow-up enquiries. These examples hinted at a smoother and efficient workflow where multiple apps are synced to provide a comprehensive, unified user experience.

Impressively, starting from today, apps like Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Expedia, Figma, Spotify and Zillow are available inside ChatGPT. This is significant as it means users can now have even more interactions and capabilities within their conversations with the chatbot. OpenAI aims to keep broadening its horizons in the coming weeks by integrating more apps, including DoorDash, OpenTable, Target, and Uber.

In line with this integration, OpenAI had recently paved the way for ChatGPT users to make purchases on Etsy through the chatbot. This move signals the company’s steady strides in integrating it with the rest of the online world, making applications more conversational and interactive.

This synergistic approach doesn’t just end with users. Starting today, OpenAI is providing developers access to an SDK specifically designed for app construction. Later this year, developers will have the opportunity to submit their apps for review and eventual publication. In a statement made by OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman, he revealed the company’s plans to offer a directory for users to easily browse apps. Details about monetization, Altman assured, will be provided soon.

OpenAI’s innovative move brings the future of app integration a step closer. It points towards a future where apps seamlessly converse with each other to help users accomplish tasks with ease. This integrative approach to technology is bound to redefine boundaries, all the while making user experiences more intuitive and effortless.
