Well, those days could be numbered. Google is stepping up the search game, and it’s about to get even more personal with a new feature called ‘Search Live’.

Originally just a test feature within Google Labs, Search Live has been introduced to every user in the US, transforming how we search for information on the world wide web. How exactly? By turning your search into a conversation with your very own AI assistant.

Once you kick-start the feature, Search Live responds to your inquiries in real-time, making the process a lot more interactive. Going beyond just vocal responses, it also unearths relevant links related to your query from across the web. But if you’re thinking this is simply another version of voice-based search queries, think again.

The magic of this feature lies in its ability to incorporate visuals into the search process – yes you heard it right! By simply pressing the “Live” button under the search bar within the Google app (which you’ll find on both Android and iOS), you can switch on your camera and make it a part of your search journey.

Seeing something and wondering what it might be? Simply show it to Search Live. Curiosity piqued by a weird-looking gadget? Point your camera at it and ask your question out loud. In fact, you can even summon this feature within the Lens app which allows you to have a real-time chat while sharing your camera view. It’s almost like having a well-informed friend sitting next to you, ready to answer all your queries.

Let’s delve into a more concrete example. Suppose you’ve decided to jump on the matcha tea bandwagon and bought all kinds of tools to prepare it. But now you’re not sure how to use them. Here’s where Search Live comes in. Simply show your AI assistant the tools, ask what each one is for, and you’ll be steered through the process. The same applies while setting up new electronic devices. This feature can guide you on where to plug specific cables by pointing your camera at them.

However, please note that as of now, Search Live is currently only available in English. It’s a noteworthy step taken by Google to revolutionize the search experience. Here’s a digital assistant that’s more than just a voice but also an eye – an integration of auditory and visual representations to enhance our interactions with the virtual world. So go on, give it a whirl and get chatty with Google.

Original article: https://www.theverge.com/news/784685/google-search-live-ai-voice-search-launch

Remember the days when you had to manually type your queries into that Google search bar and then sift through pages of results to get your desired answer?
